It is an absolute first, which will receive its global launch at VIV China, so detailed information will be available only at the exhibition. What can be revealed now, is that this new cutting module aims at creating industrially a typical end product which is very much sought after by Chinese consumers.
Until now, such a specific cut could only be done manually, which takes quite some time. However, now that capacities in China are increasing, manual labor can no longer keep up with processing speed, so automation is required. A mechanical cut, however, should involve a number of movements carried out with the utmost accuracy and consistency.
The Stork module succeeds in reproducing mechanically the skilled, manual movements of a traditional Chinese cut, which is very difficult to perform for a machine. It's not without reason that Stork engineers have been studying hard to figure out the exact designing for realizing this cut. Finally, they came up with a sophisticated module, achieving a high-speed industrial production which really outperforms manual labor. It offers the best of both worlds for the Chinese market: a precisely cut end product with excellent presentation, respecting Chinese traditions, as well as a higher yield for the poultry processor.
One of Marel Poultry's most outstanding poultry processing solutions is the Stork SmartWeigher, a whole product weighing system. The SmartWeigher can perform detailed weighing at the highest speeds and it is very versatile. It can be applied at multiple locations in the processing plant: in the cut-up line, in the distribution line, in the evisceration department and even before defeathering.
In the cut-up line, the Stork SmartWeigher's ability to weigh a product accurately at the highest speeds is an essential precondition to ensure that the best and most profitable use is made of every single product. No matter if it has a perfect weight or if it is actually too light, always the best cut-up solution for that particular product will be found. Like this, the SmartWeigher heavily contributes to reducing give-away and succeeds in getting the highest yield possible out of every product.
In the distribution line, the SmartWeigher weighs the whole products, after which the optimum destination of each product is determined by the Stork PDS-NT/Innova information and control system.
The ability to match products effectively to customer orders and put each product into its most profitable form is crucial for the “bottom line” of any processing operation. Thanks to the SmartWeigher, wrongly allocated products belong to the past.
By introducing the SmartWeigher upstream in the process, before chilling – often combined with the IRIS visual inspection system –, knowledge about product weight and quality becomes available very early. As the products spend about two and a half hours in the chilling tunnel, this 'extra' time can be used for accurate planning, giving processors insight in about 30,000 products!
The very first opportunity to weigh what comes in the plant, is integrating a SmartWeigher DF in the processing line, between stunning and killing. This solution will be able to counterbalance the figures of farmer, truck, container and/or crate with accurate and consistent weighing. It can also evaluate process efficiency by monitoring the process and pointing out the reason of a loss in yield.
